Travel Jinxed?

Well! On our trip to Chennai i suddenly realised that every trip of ours – we’ve had some small issue. Unless there is some uncomfortable incident – our trip just doesnt get completed!

I was recollecting all our trips, the bumpy ride from munnar to thekkady for 3 hrs-scared that the car we were travelling in would come apart! The trip to Mussorrie in the state road transport – which was overflowing with people that we feared it would topple off the cliff, the delayed train journey to Goa, the hour and half long wait in a dirty railway station to take us to Cochin…

And in the US – the scariest was the drive to chicago – we drove right into a storm and could barely see 5 feet ahead of us and it was only the 2 of us… The longest wait for more than an hour in columbus airport waiting for the new Skybus airplane to arrive! – to get to LA. The last minute special security check that almost made us miss our flight to Raleigh, the sleep deprived drive to niagara, the trip to NY where we forgot our passports and realised after 2 hrs of driving (we returned back to take the passports but we were never asked for any proof of identity anywhere – empire state building or the statue of liberty) – waste of 4 hrs of driving back and forth… The saddest when we left Columbus for good – we thought we had missed a piece of luggage,And by far the most worrying – the drive to the airport in SFO to catch our flight back home -we got a scare that we had lost our passports and after frantic searching for nearly an hour-got it right where it was supposed to be! All thanks to Bro and hubby for giving me a mini heart attack!

But ofcourse when we wanted something to go wrong for once, it never did – The time we went to Cary to meet cousins and just didnt want to come back. As luck would have it, all flights out of Cary were cancelled due to bad weather but the guy at the counter said “Oh! You are very lucky – yours is the only flight out of Raleigh which is on time!” I felt Oh! Soo unlucky at that moment,I ended up cursing the guy!!

Very recently a couple of weeks back we had to go out for a 2 day pilgrimage trip of sorts and the bus got stuck within the city for more than an hour – it was pouring and the window wasnt closing completely – so I had a shower right there sitting by the window of that bus stuck in a traffic jam…

Despite all that we’ve always had great vacations. So now we kind of expect something like this to happen atleast once on our trip. But the worst so far and the reason that brought it all on – We went to chennai last weekend by a local transport on a night journey and there were bed bugs on our seats X-( From the moment the bus started and we realised that its just not mosquitoes biting us-we’ve scratched ourselves raw through out the journey. During the short break on the way-we found and killed 3 of those bugs but we’ve scratched thru the night and by morning we had rashes on our skin. To top it off the hotel we had booked gave us a pathetic room which had a fine layer of dust on everything. I wiped the sink tap, the shower fitting and the clothes hanger with the tissues myself and we just couldnt take in the dust on the bed – though we desperately wanted to get some sleep after that harrowing night – we had to pay extra and call the service just to put clean bedsheets and give us clean rugs. After that though we never had any trouble with anything we never could relax and were jittery through out the trip. Poor hubby’s still got mild rashes on his arms 😦

Well, I just hope the next time around the jinx wont be that bad!

  1. Babes, These are not really jinxes… they are inconveniences that make a trip memorable.A totally uneventful trip does not have much staying power in our minds or hearts.
